In this time of “shelter-in-place” and “social distancing” many people are looking for ways to expand their businesses and build new businesses online. It’s a perfect time to create and deliver content on your website or blog, build a video channel and otherwise share your knowledge.
As with many of the articles on this site, the information and discussion started with an article I wrote for Spotlight Magazine in Brevard County, FL. With less than 500 words for the article, I always have online bonus material to add about the topics. This article extends the knowledge from the magazine article and gives you the opportunity to register for a free, virtual class on content creation on May 8, 2020 at 12:00 PM ET.
How Can Creating Content Help Your Business?
Providing valuable content shows you as an expert in your field. People like to buy from people whose knowledge they trust, and delivering that knowledge through content like blog posts and videos is a great way to demonstrate your skills.
Why is this a Good Time to Create Content?
For many people, this is a time when they have time to start a content creation plan and practice because business may be slower than usual. It’s also a time where people are consuming new content and continuing to look for things that interest them. It’s never too late to start and it’s a great time to make your information available.
What Types of Content Can You Create?
On the internet, there are many types of content available. This is true from a standpoint of consuming and creation. If you are specifically drawn to creating certain types of content, like video, you can focus on that. If you are willing to include various versions and types of content to display your information, you will reach a larger audience because different people have different preferences and methods for consuming content. Many people love watching video or listening to podcasts, while others want to read articles.
When planning your content consider that you can create videos, blog posts, social media memes and posts, or podcasts. Each has its own strategies for creation and delivery.
Am I the Right Person to Create Content?
If you are knowledgeable about a topic, then you’re the right person to create content around that topic. Even if the topic is what you consider small, in the world of the internet, small can still be a sizable amount of people. If you aren’t as advanced as some experts, that’s okay. You may be a better fit to provide information and explanation to newbies. Sometimes the super advanced experts are too far removed from the newbies to offer the best help. Someone 1-5 steps ahead can be more helpful than someone in the field for 20 years because they are closer in touch with the information that the newbies need.
How Do I Get Started?
